General information: School Development Meetings

The innovations implicate that Sacred Heart is a school in development.

The management has described this process in a yearly School Development Plan. This plan consists of a description of the school and an Action Plan in which all reforming activities are listed.

Activities can address the students, the staff, the materials, the building, as well as management and organization.
By executing the activities, small steps are made towards our ideals mentioned in the Mission Statement and FBE Philosophy.
Staff development meetings take place on Wednesday afternoons.
Teachers are encouraged to work on their Personal Development Plan by keeping track of their activities in a portfolio.
School Development Plan 2008-2009
14-11-2007

The Sacred Heart Management Team is in the process of writing a new School Development Plan for the upcoming years. Drs. Ans Smulders has returned to Saba to assist in updating the SDP and designing an Action Plan for all development activities until 2010.

Ans Smulders: "Five years ago the school had a dream. To realize a dream can be difficult and scary, but SHS has come a long way in cycle I. Now the management has to decide how thay want to shape cycle II."

As discussed in the Education Policy, Saba will strive for a seamless transition from Daycare - to cycle I - to cycle II - to Secondary Education.

A presentation was given by Tr. Diane to inform all parents of the goals and how these goals will be pursued.

Educate and Appreciate
14-05-2007

Because of Teachers Appreciation Week, all current caregivers and teachers were offered a movie-and-a-dinner at Tropics on May 10th.

Commissioner Lisa Hassell contributed to the celebration by giving all educators (32 in attendance) a gift, and opening the evening.
The movie shown, Freedom Writers, depicts how a young teacher (Hillary Swank) reaches out to her at-risk-students.

All teachers were moved to tears when we saw how the youngsters open up and confide in their teacher. The teacher listens and repects her students and is willing to sacrifice part of her life for them.

The Innovations Bureau gave out cards with inspirational quotes on the profession of a teacher. We hope the evening has given the teachers some extra energy to complete the school year.
The DVD Freedom Writers is for rent at ICS.
