Welcome to the website of the Innovations Bureau of Saba.
On this site you will find information about the reforms in our educational system, specifically in Foundation Based Education (FBE).
FBE is the merger of Kindergarten and Primary School, and provides programs for children from 4 to 12 years old.
The Central Government started implementing FBE as of 2002. To this end, all islands in the Netherlands Antilles established an Innovations Bureau (IB). The employees of the IB support the schools in the innovations process.
Saba has one school for FBE: the Sacred Heart School (SHS). The SHS is in the process of becoming a developmental school, meaning that we provide child-centered learning that takes the development of the individual child as a starting point.
Some of the characteristics of FBE are:
- Observation and documentation of acquired skills (student tracking system);
- Uninterrupted learning;
- Individual pace;
- Learning in dialogue (social learning);
- Multilevel grouping;
- Working in themes (projects);
- Holistic approach (cross-curriculum connections);
- Integrated curriculum (webbing).
